A man on a motorcycle led Alaska State Troopers on a chase from Sterling to K-Beach Sunday night, June 23.

According to the AST dispatch on the pursuit, Soldotna AST attempted to stop a black Yamaha motorcycle just after 11:00 p.m. near mile 81.5 of the Sterling Highway near Three Bears.

When they attempted to make the stop, Troopers were acting on a tip of a wanted person, Allyn Woodard, who had two outstanding warrants for his arrest.  Woodard failed to yield and attempted to elude AST.

The motorcycle ran out of fuel around mile 21.5 of K-Beach Road—fortuitously near the Alaska State Trooper A-Detachment station—and Woodard fled on foot into the woods. After a short foot pursuit, Troopers captured Woodard and took him into custody without further incident.

AST A Detachment Lieutenant Mike Henry told KSRM the danger of Woodard’s flight was compounded by dangerous driving. “He was driving recklessly, so that added to his criminal charges… [The chase] ended when he basically ditched his motorcycle and tried to run on foot.”

Woodard was remanded to Wildwood Pretrial Facility, where he was held without bail on new charges of failing to stop at the direction of a peace officer in the first degree, reckless driving, and the two original probation violation warrants.

Woodard was held without bail pending arraignment.
