The Alaska State Trooper have released the name of the victim killed in Friday morning’s plane crash in Tutka Bay.

Joseph Patenella, 57, of Maryland, has been pronounced deceased. Next of kin have been notified. One child is in critical condition and has been transported to an Anchorage hospital. All other passengers appear to have sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The pilot was not injured. An investigation is ongoing.

One person was killed and four injured in a plane crash Friday morning in Tutka Bay, across Kachemak Bay from Homer according to authorities.

Petty Officer Amanda Norcross of the U.S. Coast Guard 17th District: “We initially got a report around 10:19am, that a aircraft was conducting a departure in the middle of the bay and aborted the takeoff.”

The Federal Aviation Administration says the de Havilland DHC-2 Beaver crashed under unknown circumstances on takeoff.

According to Petty Officer Norcross, the plane was carrying 7 passengers, 3 Adults and 4 children. The crew of the good samaritan motor vessel Augustine retrieved all passengers from the plane. One passenger was reported as needing immediate medical support. The good samaritan vessel meet EMS in the Homer Harbor.

All 7 occupants of the plane were transported to the Homer Harbor and injured victims were ground transported by Homer Volunteer Fire Department, Anchor Point Emergency Services, and Kachemak Emergency Services to South Peninsula Hospital.
