12-Plant Limit For Pot Moves Ahead

A proposed limit on the number of marijuana plants per residence is making headway in the State Legislature.

The House Community and Regional Affairs Committee today gave approval to the bill which would limit households of two or more adults to just 12 plants.

Legislative researchers had previously advised that the restriction might be unconstitutional. The bill also defined public places where marijuana consumption is prohibited.

Committee members indicated that they want individual communities to have that power to set their own limits as well.

Rachelle Yeung, from the Marijuana Policy Project, said her group would like to see a higher limit for larger households, such as 18 plants for three adults.
