The 1A Peninsula Conference Basketball Tournament opened play on Thursday, March 2nd and runs through Saturday, March 4th at Lumen Christi in Anchorage.
The Cook Inlet Academy girls, seeded #2 in the Peninsula Conference, defeated Birchwood Academy 42-26 in the girls bracket opener. The Eagle girls advance to Friday’s girls championship game at 6 p.m. at Lumen Christi.
The Eagle Boys, seeded #1 in the tournament, downed Nanwalek 68-48 to advance to Friday’s boys championship game at 8 p.m.
The Peninsula Conference includes: Cook Inlet Academy, Lumen Christi, Holy Rosary Academy, Nanwalek and Birchwood Christian School.
The Peninsula Conference champions and tournament 2nd-place automatically qualify to the 2023 ASAA 1A Basketball State Championships set for March 15-18 at the Alaska Airlines Center on the campus of UAA.

Cook Inlet Academy Girls 42 – Birchwood Academy Girls 26
Tatum Rozak scored 18 points and Hope Hillyer added 14 in a 42-26 Cook Inlet girls victory over Birchwood Academy. CIA led 21-9 at the half and held Birchwood to a single field goal in the third quarter.

The CIA boys opened a 21-13 lead after one quarter and a 41-24 advantage at the half as Cook Inlet defeated Nanwalek 68-48 and advance to the boys championship game on Friday night at 8 p.m. at Lumen Christi. Abraham Henderson lead all scorers with 17 points and Jeremy Dillingham added 16 for the Eagles.
