The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services reported two new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday. The total positive case count, including recovered patients, now stands at 337. The active case count is now 119, which counts the total positive tests, subtracting all recoveries and fatalities.
Of the two new cases, one comes from the Anchorage area and whether it was travel-related or exposure-related is still under investigation.
These cases are reported using the state’s timetable of reporting counts: 12:00 a.m. until 11:59 p.m. on April 22.
The total number of recovered patients, as of Thursday’s update, stands at 209 out of the 337 total positive cases that have been reported. That marks 13 new recoveries. Of the new cases, both are male. One is under the age of 10; and one is aged 60-69.
No new hospitalizations have been reported, leaving that total at 36. There were also no new deaths reported, leaving that total at nine.
The total number of tests conducted in the state thus far is 11,473. As Alaska begins the process of gradually reopening, increasing the number of people being tested for COVID-19 is as important as ever. Testing capacity has recently increased and sites are now available in most communities across the state.
