Anchorage man Demarqus Green has spent his early 20’s under the shadow of a 2012 murder, but some resolution may come this week in Homer.
Green, now 23, is accused of first and second degree murder, as well as tampering with physical evidence and armed robbery in the death of then 40-year-old Demian Sagerser.
Green was camping at Centennial Campground during the weekend of July 7, 2012, when witnesses testified he attempted to purchase marijuana near Sagerser’s Stariski Creek home from a “short man.”
Sagerser’s friend Cimmaron Tangman found the deceased with two 9mm gunshot wounds. Tangman testified there were game cameras outside the house, since Sagerser feared being robbed. Camera footage shows a man who resembles Green standing in a red shirt of jacket next to a red Chevy Impala. The individual resembles Green, who was found in possession of a 9mm Smith and Wesson when contacted by police. His girlfriend, Nancie Modeste drove a car matching that description.
Modeste has previously accepted a plea deal for evidence tampering. She and Green were accused of burning clothing and other evidence connected with the alleged murder.
Green’s trial is expected to continue this week in Homer.
