In the Alaska Department of Fish and Game’s 2014 commercial fishing season summary a harvest of nearly 3.2 million salmon ranked 20% less than the 10-year average.
The department estimated that 1,524,707 sockeye salmon reached escapement in the Kenai River this season, while the Kasilof River saw 439,977 sockeye reach escapement.
Both of those numbers were above the upper goal put forth by the department.
As for the Kenai River of king salmon passage estimate, approximately 16,670 were counted however after inriver mortality was subtracted, the final estimate was around 16,000 king salmon.
