Much to the dismay of those out hunting for the KSRM Easter Egg, it has been found. Michelle, Renee, and Jillian Gagnon returned the winning egg to the KSRM studios on Friday to claim their $2,000 prize.
This was their fourth win, in over ten years of participating in the hunt. Michelle Gagnon described where the trio found the grand prize: “In Soldotna Creek Park on a trail back behind the watershed building between a bunch of big rocks. It was pushed up in a crack covered with leaves. There were leaves, and once you moved the leaves, there was another rock that was pushed into the crack. We pulled that out, there were more leaves, and then eventually, with a stick, I was able to get it loose.”
After the KSRM Easter Egg Hunt was postponed following the COVID-19 pandemic, the clues started going out at the beginning of May. The winners described the particular clues that tipped them off about the winning location in Soldotna Creek Park: “The one about the lot, like a parking lot, and then the right coming and left going, that worked for pulling in there. We always thought – we were always coming from the radio station when you hide it, so we just used that as our base. The clue about the young lay their often.”
The winners offered some tips on how to find the KSRM Easter Egg next year: “Take your hands out of your pockets! We’ve watched so many people walk around thinking that they could just see it. This isn’t your mom’s egg hunt. It’s just not sitting there on the lawn waiting on you to find it. You’ve gotta dig for it or pull something away. It’s definitely not just right there saying ‘Hey, here I am!'”
When asked what they are going to do with their $2,000 prize: “Pay an emergency vet bill I had earlier this week. How about you?” – “I had a hospital bill from my son cutting his leg.”
Michelle, Renee, and Jillian say they will be looking to continue their winning streak in next year’s egg hunt: “Oh, yes. Every time! We enjoy this. This is our thing every year. We don’t sleep, usually. We’re thinking constantly!”
Congratulations to this year’s winners! Mark your calendars for the 2021 KSRM Easter Egg Hunt.
