The 93rd Mount Marathon race returns in 2021 with an enlarged field and the men’s and women’s 2019 champions leading a loaded list of extreme runners set to attack the mountain on Wednesday, July 7th in Seward, Alaska.
Men’s course record holder and Mount Marathon champion in 2016 and 2018, David Norris leads a men’s field which includes 2019 third-place finisher Pyper Dixon of Seward and Anchorage’s Lars Arneson, who finished fourth in 2019 and has won three endurance events in 2021 including the Government Peak Climb, the Turnagain Arm Trail Run and the Crazy Lazy. Norris’ course record of 42 minutes, 13 seconds was set in 2016.
The women’s field includes 2019 champion Hannah Lafleur of Seward, two-time champion Christy Marvin of Palmer and two-time champion (2012 and 2014) Holly Brooks of Anchorage. Olympic skier Rosie Frankowski of Anchorage, finished second in the Mount Marathon in 2018 and returns to the race following a second-place finish at Bird Ridge in June. The women’s course record was set in 2015 by Emelie Forsberg at 47 minutes and 48 seconds.
