Registration to sign up for the 2022 Permanent Fund Dividend is now open. The application period opened on New Year’s Day. Residents have until March 31 to submit an application online or in person.
To qualify for a 2022 Permanent Fund Dividend, you must have been a resident of Alaska during all of calendar year 2021. On the date you apply for the 2022 Permanent Fund Dividend, you have the intent to remain an Alaska resident indefinitely. You have not claimed residency in any other state or country or obtained a benefit because of a claim of residency in another state or country at any other time since December 31, 2020.
In addition, to be eligible for the PFD, you aren’t allowed to be sentenced because of a felony conviction during 2021. You can’t be incarcerated at any time during 2021 as the result of a felony conviction or incarcerated as the result of a misdemeanor conviction in the state if convicted of a prior felony or two or more prior misdemeanors since January 1, 1997. Also, absence from the state for more than 180 days isn’t permitted, unless it’s an allowable absence.
The 2021 Permanent Fund Dividend amount was $1,114.
The Permanent Fund Dividend was created in 1980 to share a portion of the oil wealth with residents. The first PFD was designed to reward longevity and a commitment to residency by giving every adult Alaska resident $50 for every year of residency since statehood in 1959. Payment of dividends remained under litigation till 1982 when the program was revised to give an equal share to every Alaskan.
