The celebration of the Kenai Peninsula’s outstanding industry leaders will take place on the Kenai Park Strip this Saturday.
Industry Appreciation Day kicks-off with a free community barbecue with hot dogs, hamburgers, and salmon; Kenai City Councilor Tim Navarre said that’s just a sliver of the festivities.
Navarre: “Other neat things about Industry Day of course we have games and opportunities for all the young kids to participate. For the very young ones we have Jumpin’ Junction’s fun jump games. We have the National Guard coming with their blow-up interactive games. They were really excited about coming again this year so that’ll help for the upper age groups.”
Kenai Chamber of Commerce President Johna Beech said there’s a frozen T-shirt contest for adults, as well as chances to win airfare from Ravn Alaska and a $500 gas card.
The main celebration is the relationship between the community and our industries.
Beech: “We acknowledge our local industries: fishing, oil and gas, and tourism. And we actually will be honoring individuals and businesses from those categories. That’ll take place at 1:30.”
Industry Appreciation Day will be from noon – 4 pm on Saturday, August 29 on the Kenai Park Strip next to the softball fields.
