Ready your reels and make sure you have tons of hooks on standby because you’ll need this at the 30th Annual Homer Winter King Salmon Tournament.

This year’s event is set for Saturday, March 23, 2024.

The famous, one-day tournament awards tens of thousands of dollars in prize money to the largest kings caught. Since 2021, the tournament has averaged over $200,000 in annual cash prizes, and the champion fish has averaged $77,910. In addition, another $30,000 in merchandise prizes are given away through drawings and prize packages.

According to Homer Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Brad Anderson, the community is extremely excited for this year’s event, as many new things are happening in honor of the big 3-0!

“We have a new sponsor Honda Marine has joined us this year. We also are getting a new championship trophy. Bay Welding is producing that for us, so we’ll be introducing that at the event. At the Beer Garden, we have Blackwater Railroad Company coming to perform, as well as local favorite, Stylist Jones. So I have a lot more activity and fun happening in the beer garden, too. It’s going to be a blast,” said Anderson.

And the best part is that this event is for everybody, not just the anglers looking to fish big!

After the fishing lines are pulled from the water, join the festivities at the weigh-in stations by the Deep Water Dock at 4667 Freight Dock Road. There, individuals can find live music, beer & wine garden, food trucks, vendors, and some extra surprises as the City of Homer celebrates the tournament’s 30th anniversary.

“Even if you’re not fishing, it’s just great to come out and see all the activity that happens that day. It’s really a chance for locals to kind of kind of put winter behind them and start, you know, getting ready to go fishing again. So it’s kind of that spring, you know, break out of the winter, out of the snow a little bit, starting joining our fishing waters out here again. And it’s just a chance to celebrate this amazing resource,” said Anderson.
