The 3A Peninsula Conference basketball tournament will begin this Friday in Nikiski. The opening round should be full of excitement, with both girls’ and boys’ squads for the Bulldogs and Kardinals fighting for a spot in the conference title game and a chance to qualify for the 3A state tournament.
The day’s first game is at 5:00 p.m., featuring the Nikiski Bulldogs and Kenai Central Kardinals boys’ teams. Both teams are looking to secure at least second place in the tournament, which would guarantee them a spot in the state tournament.
Following the boys’ matchup, the Nikiski Bulldogs and Kenai Central Kardinals girls will face off at 7:00 p.m. Like the boys, the winner of this game will secure at least second place in the tournament, ensuring their place in the 3A state tournament. Both teams have been strong contenders all season, making this a must-watch game.
Earlier in the day, the Grace Christian Grizzlies—led by reigning Alaska Gatorade Player of the Year Sophie Lentfer—and Homer Mariners girls’ teams will play at 3:00 p.m. While this game may not have the same stakes as the others, both teams will be looking to build momentum heading into the remainder of the tournament.
All games will air on ESPN 1140AM, 96.9FM, and radiokenai.com. Pregame coverage begins 15 minutes before tipoff.
