The 64th Annual Progress Days kicks off today in Soldotna and goes through Saturday the 24th. The 2021 Progress Day Celebration will be a three-day event, following the Wednesday Market and Levitt AMP Soldotna Concert today. The festivities include multiple concerts, car shows, presentations, the rodeo and the Soldotna Progress Days Parade on Saturday.
Shannon Davis, Executive Director for the Soldotna Chamber of Commerce spoke to KSRM:
“So this year what we’re doing is a little different than we’ve done in the past. You know, in days of old, Progress Days was one of the only events that happened in town that had vendor booths so we really concentrated on one weekend with all the vendor booths in the park and our Wednesday events are so popular. We’re just kind of going to continue that from July 21st is our Levitt AMP Soldotna Music Series. That’s going to be a great way to kick things off and then we’re going to roll straight into Thursday. Thursday our vendor booths will still be in the park all day. That’s going to be the Food Bank day in the park. Proceeds from the concert that evening are going to be going to the food bank. We are going to try and fill a truck with one ton of food for the food bank that day. They are going to have a free concert that night with Hobo Jim. We haven’t had Hobo Jim in Soldotna in quite awhile. This is going to be areal treat for the community. Of course, we are going to have the beer garden and all the food vendors that night.
With the forecasted rain, Davis said to dress accordingly:
“We’re a little bit more casual here and we know that people don’t necessarily like to stand out in the rain all the time. Although we have moved the beer garden back to the area where one of the pavilions is within the beer garden. There is some covered area there. Then, of course, the pavilion on the other side. We just want people to be comfortable. If you choose to bring an umbrella, if you are sitting in a place, just try and make sure that you are not blocking somebody’s view that’s sitting behind you.”
