SoHi Tops Homer in NSC Hockey; Basketball Kards Split With Mariners

The Soldotna Stars hockey team recorded a North Star Conference victory over the Homer Mariners 4-1 on Tuesday at the Kevin Bell Arena in Homer.  SoHi opened the scoring with a Cameron Knowlton goal and added a Levi Hensley goal for a 2-0, first period lead.  The Stars added a second period goal by Matt Dougherty and a third period goal off the stick of Cory Hansen.  Homer’s lone goal came on a 5 on 3 power play in the third period.

Final Score: SoHi 4 – Homer 1.

The Stars will host Dimond on Friday night at 7;30 p.m. and West Anchorage at 2:45 p.m. Saturday at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex.

Basketball Scores & Schedules

In non-conference basketball on Tuesday at KCHS, The Homer Mariner girls downed the Kardinals 45-35 and the Kenai boys overpowered the Mariners 71-33.  Kenai will travel to the Valley for Northern Lights Conference games on Friday against Colony and Saturday against Wasilla–varsity games will be broadcast on KSRM 920AM and www.radiokenai.com.

In other basketball action, the Soldotna girls will be in the Valley for NLC games with SoHi playing Wasilla on Friday and Colony on Saturday–games on ESPN 1140AM and www.radiokenai.com; the Star boys open play at the Dimond Prep Classic on Thursday with a first round game on ESPN 1140AM against Galena.  The Nikiski girls host Mt. Edgecombe on Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. varsity game on KSRM 920AM.
