Star Hockey Falls 7-1 To West Valley Ending Stars State Run

The Soldotna Stars hockey team dropped a 7-1 decision to West Valley of Fairbanks on Friday in the consolation round of the ASAA First National Cup State Hockey Championships at the Curtis Menard Arena in Wasilla.

SoHi managed a lone goal in the third period off the stick of Cameron Knowlton.  SoHi goalie Billy Yoder recorded 43 saves.  SoHi ends tournament play 0-2.

State Hockey First Round: Chugiak 9 – SoHi 2

The Soldotna Stars, the #2 seed from the North Star Conference, fell 9-2 to the Cook Inlet Conference Champion Chugiak Mustangs in the first round of the ASAA First National Cup State Hockey Championships at the Curtis Menard Arena in Wasilla.

Chugiak scored five goals in the first period and added one second period goal for a 6-0 lead after two periods.  Chugiak extended the lead to 8-0 before a pair of Corey Hansen goals for the Stars pushed the score to 8-2.  A final Mustang goal closed the scoring at 9-2 Chugiak.

SoHi will face Mid-Alaska Conference champion West Valley on Friday at noon.  Free broadcast available at ESPN 1140 AM and www.radiokenai.com

The tournament will run Thursday – Saturday, February 11-13 with both the Large School championship and the Greatland Conference championship game scheduled for Saturday.
