The Alaska Democratic Party has announced three finalists to fill Anchorage’s House District 16 vacancy following Representative Max Gruenberg’s death.
Those include environmental scientist Taylor Brelsford, Kendra Kloster who is an aide to House Minority Leader Chris Tuck, and Ivy Spohnholz, a development director for the Salvation Army.
Gruenber’s widow, Kayla Epstein, withdrew her application for the vacancy according to the Democratic Party’s release.
By law, the appointee must be a member of the same political party as the previous individual who held the seat. For Gruenberg’s vacancy, the appointee will be up for confirmation by House Democrats.
Governor Bill Walker has 30 days from the date the seat was vacated to make the appointment. Representative Max Gruenberg died February 14.
