Monday, March 7, Afternoon Iditarod Update

As of 4:50 pm, Monday, March 7, 44 of the remaining 83 mushers left in the Iditarod have passed the Rainy Pass checkpoint, northwest of rohn. One Kenai Peninsula musher is in the top three.

 

Hugh Neff is leading the field of mushers in first place, with Noah Burmeister following about two hours behind, and Kasilof’s Paul Gebhart in third place.

 

Reports of low snow is already taking a toll on some mushers: following a crash this morning, Jan Steves reported an injury and scratched from the race. Martin Koenig of Montana has also scratched.

 

Other Peninsula Standings: 

 

Mitch Seavey of Seward was in 20th.

 

Travis Beals of Seward was in 29th.

 

Monica Zappa of Kasilof was in 58th.

 

Sarah Stokey of Seward, a rookie, was in 72nd.
