The Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly will look at passing an ordinance to approve $118,300 in federal funds that will be put toward paving Aspen Avenue in Ninilchik, the road to a couple assisted living centers.
Road Service Area Director Pat Malone with the Borough…
Malone: “It will be doing the engineering and design necessary, and the construction necessary to turn Aspen Avenue in Ninilchik into a paved street. That’s where the Senior Citizen Center is located in Ninilchik and I believe there’s at least one assisted living facility on that street, so it’s a high priority for local residents.”
The federal grant is awarded through the Alaska Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development; it is accompanied by a required 25 percent match from the borough in the amount of $62,500 in the capital improvement projects budget that the assembly approved.
Malone says he doesn’t know if the $118,000 federal grant will be enough to complete the job but it will significantly improve the street for the community members of Ninilchik.
The Borough Assembly meeting will take public comment on that ordinance at their 6:00 pm regular meeting tonight in the Assembly Chambers in Soldotna.
