Kenai Council Introduce Code Amendments Relating to Airport Lands

Kenai City Councilors are scheduled to introduce three ordinances tonight pertaining to use of the city’s airport lands and creating a new Airport Light Industrial Zone for planning.

City Mayor Pat Porter…

Mayor Porter: “The first one is to allow for acquisition of real property outside of the Airport Reserve to reserve lands for public use. The second ordinance is enacting the Kenai Municipal Code section to allow an Airport Light Industrial Zone.”

The third ordinance would deem 51 parcels that are owned by the City of Kenai in the Airport Reserve Boundary as the new Airport Light Industrial Zone. Those ordinances were postponed from introduction during the council’s April 6 meeting.

Mayor Porter says she doesn’t believe these ordinances will change much for anyone who leases from or uses the airport…

Mayor Porter: “I think it’s more planning for the future, what we can and cannot do, it’s not really going to affect people who already have properties leased or owned from the city.”

The Kenai City Council will meet at 6 pm Wednesday, May 4, in the Kenai City Hall Council Chambers.
