Law Enforcement officers will gather for the annual Alaska Police Memorial Day ceremony in Anchorage on Friday, May 6.

Public Information Officer Timothy Despain with the Alaska State Troopers…

Despain: “It’s a time for law enforcement officers to be honored that have given their lives as a sacrifice for the people of Alaska essentially. It also honors law enforcement officers who carry on after the death of their peers. The public is certainly invited to attend the ceremonies.”

The keynote speaker at Friday’s Anchorage event will be Alaska State Trooper Sergeant Mike Roberts who works at the Fairbanks post.

Despain: “And he was, in addition to being co-workers with, he was also close friends with Sergeant Scott Johnson and Trooper Gabe Rich that were both killed responding to the report of a man brandishing a firearm in Tanana in 2014.”

The event in Anchorage Friday begins at 3:00 pm at the Alaska State Crime Detection Laboratory on the east side of town.
