The Soldotna Canvass Board met yesterday to count the questioned and absentee ballots from the May 10 special election, finding the final votes tallied at 296 yes and 207 no.
Soldotna Deputy Clerk Carmen Triana…
Triana: “There were a total of 98 that counted, so those were factored in and combined with numbers we received at the polling site. 53 of the absentee/questioned ballots were yes and 45 were no, so actually the proposition 16-01 did pass with a 58.85 percent yes and a 41.15 percent no.”
Originally there were upward of 100 absentee and questioned ballots to be counted, however only 98 were valid.
These are still considered the unofficial results until they can be certified at the Soldotna City Council’s May 25 meeting.
After the absentee and questioned ballots were tallied, Jerry Farrington (103) and Roberta “Bobbie” O’Neill(170) were still the candidates for the charter commission with the least votes.
That means the Home Rule Charter Commission will be comprised of:
RoseMary Reeder
Dale Bagley
Scott Davis
Linda Hutchings
Karen “Penny” Vadla
Linda Murphy
Timothy Cashman
