A recent report has named Alaska as number one in a variety of areas relating to military retirement in the state.
Findings by WalletHub.com analysts compared the 50 states and Washington D.C. across 20 key metrics, ranging from job opportunities for veterans to number of VA health facilities per number of vets.
Military Retirement in Alaska (1=Best; 25=Avg.)
- 1st – Number of Veterans per Capita
- 1st – Number of VA Benefits-Administration Facilities per Number of Veterans
- 1st – WalletHub “Tax Rates” Ranking
- 3rd – Arts, Leisure & Recreation Establishments per Capita
- 5th – Dollars in Defense Department Contracts per Capita
- 6th – % of Veteran-Owned Businesses
- 24th– Veteran Job Opportunities
- 30th – Housing Affordability
Iowa was ranked number one in regards to Veteran Job Opportunities while Washington D.C. and Maryland took the 50th and 51st places respectively in that category.
Iowa also took first place in Housing Affordability for veterans, followed by Nebraska, North Dakota, Kansas, and Minnesota.
