BP Selling Anchorage Offices, Will Lease from Buyer

BP Alaska will be putting its Anchorage headquarters up for sale but does not plan to move. Instead the company will lease the 277,000 square foot building from whomever buys it.

The global oil giant is considering similar deals for a number of its office locations around the United States as it moves to “adapt and re-balance” BP amid low oil prices and a changing environment.

In an internal memo sent to the company’s employees Monday, BP Alaska regional president Janet Weiss wrote that BP is not a real estate company and the sale will free up capital, allowing more focus on oil and gas. She also reassured employees that the company is not leaving.

Earlier this year the land and 13-story office building was assessed at a $81,430,300 value.

Only the Anchorage headquarters are included in the sale, not BP’s two adjacent buildings.
