The Soldotna City Council voted unanimously Wednesday night to appoint Steve Manley to Seat B on the local body.

Manley: “I am very excited, I was born and raised here this is my home town and I think the city is doing a lot of good work. I’m happy to be a part of it.”

Dan Nelson, one of the two other candidates, was present at the meeting telephonically and James Bennett had withdrawn his application.

Former Seat B Council Member Meggean Bos-Marquez said she timed her resignation so that whoever took the seat could be a part of the city’s entire budget process.

Manley says it should be interesting to get involved with the budget.

Manley: “I’m familiar with budgeting in general, not as familiar with the municipal process, I’ve watched it before, as a resident. I don’t have any particular hot-button issue or specific line item, I think the obvious concern is the obvious one that everyone’s talking about, mill rate versus sales tax impacts and how to wrestle with that.”

His appointment lasts until this October’s municipal election when Soldotna residents will vote on four council seats total.
