Ostrander Battles In USA 5000M Olympic Finals

Allie Ostrander, competing in her first olympic trials and racing in the finals as the only collegiate athlete in the 5000M USA Track and Field National Championships, battled with the best female distance runners in America for one of three positions in the 5000M on the USA Olympic Track Team in Eugene, Oregon on Sunday.

On the track at Hayward Field (Tracktown USA),  Allie finished 8th overall in the 5000M Women’s Final.  The field consisted of 16 qualifiers including past members of USA track and Field, Team USA.

Allie posts a 15:24 for 8th place.

Allie stayed with the lead pack for the entire race and moved up to 4th at the 3400M mark.  Olympian Molly Huddle won the 5000M in 15:05.  Huddle, Shelby Houlihan and Kim Conley qualify to represent the USA at the Rio Olympic Games.
Allie’s Finals 5000M Race Breakdown

Allie completed the first 1000M in 3:12.38 and in 6th place in the early stages of the race.  Allie held-down 8th place through the 3000M mark and advanced to 4th place at the 3400M mark.  Allie dropped-back to 8th with 800M remainig and finished 8th overall in 15:24.

Qualifying Race: 5000M 2nd Heat Race Breakdown

Allie opened the first 1000M in 3:06.36 in 9th place in a tightly-packed field.  At the 2200M mark, Allie sat in 10th place posting a 6:53.92.  At the 3000M post, Allie stood in 10th at 9:27.82.  Allie moved up on the field to 7th at the 3400M mark and in 6th at 3800M.  Down the stretch, Allie moved to 5th at 4200M and hit the final lap in 4th place at 14:21.36.

Allie earned her Finals position finishing 4th in the second heat with a total time of 15:27.13

Molly Huddle, past USA olympian, won the Women’s 5000M second heat in 15:26.33.

USA Olympic Trials Qualifying

Allie has posted the 12th fastest qualifying time of the declared entrants.  Allie ran a 15:21.85 at the University of Washington Invitational Indoor Meet.  Allie did not compete in the outdoor season for Boise State.  Allie was the only collegiate runner in the field for the 5000M.
