Volleyball Opens With Stars Sweeping Kodiak; Kenai & Nikiski Compete At Homer Jamboree

Volleyball opened with conference matches for the Soldotna Stars in Kodiak and with jamboree contests in Homer.

The Soldotna Stars recorded a pair of varsity victories in Kodiak over the 2015 Northern Lights Conference champion Bears, a notable start to the regular season for the Stars.

SoHi downed Kodiak on Friday in three straight games 25-19, 25-21 and 25-15.  The Stars handled the Bears on Saturday in four games 25-18, 21-22, 25-18 and 25-22.

 

Homer Jamboree

The 2016 Homer Jamboree volleyball tournament championship game featured a best-of-three match between Nikiski and Kenai Central culminating a full day of volleyball action.

The Bulldogs downed the Kardinals in the title match 21-18, 20-22 and 15-9. Nikiski advanced to the finals by defeating Homer 15-21, 21-13 and 15-9 in the semis; Kenai defeated Seward 21-12 and 21-17to move to the final match.

In tournament round-robin play, Kenai downed Homer 21-6 and 21-11; Nikiski defeating Homer 21-15 and 21-5; Kenai and Seward splitting, with Seward winning 21-12 and Kenai winning 21-19; Seward topping Homer 22-20 and 21-14; Nikiski topping Seward 21-11 and 21-14; and Kenai splitting with Nikiski, with Nikiski winning 23-21 and Kenai winning 21-19.
