Marijuana Social Clubs Illegal According To Alaska Attorney General

The Alaska attorney general has announced this afternoon that marijuana social clubs are illegal in an attempt to clear up confusion within the state’s legalization of recreational pot use.

Recently licensed retail marijuana shops are exempt from this statement since state regulators are contemplating rules on the consumption of cannabis, however, clubs that charge a fee to individuals using marijuana on their property are illegal, according to Attorney General Jahna Lindemuth.

Public places such as movie theaters or cafes, where marijuana is not allowed, are considered unlicensed social clubs under Lindemuth’s definition.

The state commerce commissioner requested this opinion and the Alcohol and Marijuana Control Board falls in the same department.
