Alaska State Troopers is reminding all drivers, whether traveling to a campsite or the grocery store, to be mindful of your surroundings when driving during this Labor Day weekend.

Typically, Labor Day weekend is the last “hoorah” for summer, so families and friends travel together, taking advantage of all Alaska has to offer. Many travel to and from the peninsula to camp, fish or hunt, hike or simply catch up on household chores by stopping at the store. AST Public Information Officer Megan Peters reminds drivers to be aware with the increase of traffic…

Peters: “We really do encourage people to be very mindful of their driving habits on the roadway and realize it’s going to be congested out there and give yourself extra time to get from point A to point B and once you’re there, be safe.”

Peters also reminds those who choose to consume alcohol, to not get behind the wheel.

Peters: “If you choose to partake in alcohol or anything that’s going to impair your ability to drive a vehicle, stay the night, have a plan, make sure you get home safe so everyone else can get home safe, too.”

When traveling to and from activities this weekend, if you see a driver who appears to be a hazard on the road, to themselves or others, call 9-1-1 and file a REDDI report.
