A dominating offense and a stifling defense propelled the Soldotna Stars to a 49-13 victory over the Palmer Moose in the 2016 ASAA Medium School Football Championship, a fifth-straight Medium School title for the SoHi football program.
The Stars complete a fourth-straight unbeaten season, record their tenth victory of the season and extend the SoHi football programs’ state record win streak to 49 games.

The Stars offense amassed over nearly 350 rushing yards, including six rushing touchdowns.
SoHi freshman quarterback Jersey Truesdell connected with Andy West for an 8-yard touchdown in Truesdell’s first varsity start; and that wasn’t the best accomplishment of the day.
Junior running back Brenner Furlong pounded the rock for over 250 yards and five rushing touchdowns, including an 80 yard touchdown run; and that wasn’t the best accomplishment of the day.
The Soldotna defense held Palmer scoreless through three quarters (Palmer only scoring after the starting defense retired in the fourth quarter), recorded three turnovers and forced four punts through three quarters; and that wasn’t the best accomplishment of the day—maybe it was!
SoHi’s 49-13 victory completed an undefeated 10-0 season and advanced the Stars current win streak to 49 games. SoHi battled through a season filled with injuries and line-up changes, the Stars recorded victories over Large School opponents West and East (both fell to the Stars and both will play in the Large School championship game next Friday night) and SoHi players filled the state all-tournament team, dominated the all-Northern Lights Conference teams and earned the Academic Award for Medium School football at the state championships.

SoHi 49 -Palmer 13 Game Summary
The Stars scored a pair of first quarter touchdowns for a 14-0 first quarter lead over Palmer. Brenner Furlong opened the scoring with a 23-yard touchdown run and Jersey Truesdell hit Andy West on an 8-yard touchdown pass.
SoHi scored three rushing touchdowns in the second quarter for a 35-0 halftime lead. Furlong scored on an 80-yard run; Jace Urban pounded a 9-yard touchdown run and Furlong added a 25-yard run for a touchdown.
Furlong added two more rushing touchdowns in the third quarter, one 14-yard run and one 52-yard TD run. SoHi lead 49-0 after three quarters. Blake Jones connected on all seven, extra point kicks.
