Alaska’s legal marijuana industry has taken a step forward with the opening of the state’s first testing lab.
Cann Test chief executive officer Mark Malagodi says the company opened for business Monday in Anchorage after clearing regulatory hurdles on Friday.
Alaska voters approved recreational use of marijuana in November 2014.
CannTest offers testing required for marijuana to be sold commercially. It also will test samples by private growers.
The testing of 4-gram samples includes analysis for potency, purity and water content.
The company will test cannabis flowers, concentrates and edibles.
Malagodi says CannTest was required by the state and city to put in place an alarm system, video surveillance and other security measures also required of growers and retail establishments.
No one under 21 is allowed on the premises.
