Remembering Pat Hawkins…

Earlier this month we reported the passing of Pat Hawkins.

 

Tuesday, October 25th the family shared Pat’s Obituary;

 

Patrick Andrew “Pat” Hawkins, 67, of Gilbert, Arizona, passed away on Monday, Oct. 3, 2016, after a brief illness.

 

Patrick was born in Syracuse, New York on May 12, 1949. He attended high school in Astoria, Oregon and Anchorage, graduating from West Anchorage High School in 1967. In high school he played trombone in the marching and found his voice for radio as DJ on the school radio station. He enlisted in the Navy upon graduation and served on the U.S.S. Truxtun during the Vietnam War.

 

Shortly before deployment, Patrick married his high school sweetheart and partner of 46 years, Sandra (Ward) in Ventura, California. Following his discharge, Patrick and Sandy settled in Anchorage, and later moved to Kenai-Soldotna area. He worked in the grocery business many years, rising from night clerk to store manager. In recent years, Patrick, Sandy and their daughter Hannah moved to Gilbert, Arizona and found a new home there.

 

Patrick was committed to public service and community involvement throughout his life. He served as union shop steward, commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post 10046 Soldotna and on numerous community and neighborhood organizations. He loves to engage in debate and for almost 20 years, found a second career and large following as a member of KSRM Radio Group Sound Off program team. He enjoyed being informed and was a keen and critical observer of all around him. He had a lifelong love of music, film and baseball and became a avid fan of the Arizona Diamondbacks in his new Arizona home.

 

Patrick is survived by his sons Chris and Brian and daughter Hannah, his daughter –in-law Roxanna, grandchildren Nathan, Luis and Cole, and his brother John and sister Lori. He was preceded in death by his spouse Sandy in 2015, his parents Ruth and William, and his brother Stephen.

 

Funeral Services for Patrick and Sandy will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Veteran’s Day, Nov. 11th, 2016, at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, Arizona. Burial will follow.

 

The family would like to thank the ICU staff of Banner Gateway Medical Center, Gilbert, Arizona. The Hawkins family has been very grateful for all the support from the family and friends during this rough time, with special thanks to the KSRM team.
