Bulldogs Grind-Out Southcentral Conference Volleyball Championship: Colony Wins NLC

The Nikiski Bulldogs defeated the #1 seed and unbeaten in SCC play Grace Christian Grizzlies for the 2016 Southcentral Conference championship and the Bulldogs earn a top  seed into the ASAA 3A State Volleyball Tournament.

 

Nikiski dropped the Grizzlies in a five-game, championship match at Houston High School on Saturday, earning the Bulldogs program its first conference championship since 2005.  Grace took game one 25-12; Nikiski battles to win games 2 and 3 before Grace tied the match with a game four 25-14 decision.  The final game to 15 goes to the Bulldogs 16-14.

Nikiski earns the #1 seed from the Southcentral Conference, Grace and Seward also qualify to the state 3A tournament.  Seward defeated Homer for the final state berth.

Ayla Pitt recorded 20 kills in the championship game to lead the Bulldogs.

The 2016 ASAA 3A State Volleyball Championships are scheduled for Thursday – Saturday, November 10-12 at the Alaska Airlines Center on the UAA campus.

 

Northern Lights Conference Tournament

The Colony Knights defeated Palmer in five games for the NLC volleyball championship and the top seed to the ASAA 4A Volleyball State Tournament.  Palmer and Wasilla qualify to the 4A state tournament which is scheduled for the Alaska Airlines Center beginning Thursday, November 10th.

Kenai’s Abby Beck was named co-MVP and 1st team All-NLC.  Kenai coach Tracie Beck was named Co-Coach of the Year for the NLC.  SoHi’s Ituau Tuisaula and Drewe Zeck were named to the NLC 1st Team.
