Walker Announces “Structural” Changes in Staff

Gov. Bill Walker has named a new chief of staff. Scott Kendall will take over for current Chief of Staff Jim Whitaker starting Dec. 2.

Kendall is an attorney who served as a managing director for the Black Rock Group, which provides campaign consulting, communications and other services.

In a release, Walker said Whitaker will become senior adviser on major projects and continue working on efforts including a project aiming to bring natural gas to Interior Alaska and finding efficiencies within state corporations.

Walker said Whitaker had been juggling work on those projects in addition to being chief of staff. Walker said the staffing change will let Whitaker focus on completing those tasks.

Whitaker was one of the first appointments Walker made following his 2014 election.

Walker’s office said adjustments will be made to accommodate the changes within the office’s existing budget.
