The Alaska Department of Education has a new administrator at the helm as Sana Efird has accepted an appointment to the postion of deputy commissioner of the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development.
Efird will serve as a top official in the department under Education Commissioner Michael Johnson and will begin serving on December 1st, pending approval by the Alaska Board of Education and Early Development.
Efird previously served as assistant commissioner at the state health department. She will replace Betty Walters who served as interim deputy commissioner since March, when Les Morse retired.
