Local basketball programs, which once meet on a regular basis, faced-off on Thursday night at Kenai Central High School with the Kenai Kardinals hosting the Nikiski Bulldogs.
Kenai Girls 48 – Nikiski Girls 44
The Kardinal girls held off a late charge by Nikiski for a 48-44 Kardinal victory. Nikiski held a 1-0-4 lead after one quarter and a 20-17 lead at the half. The Kardinals scored 21 points in the third for a 38-27 lead over Nikiski. The Bulldogs closed to within two points in the final minute; however, Kenai holds on for the 48-44 non-conference basketball win. Bethany Carstens lead the Bulldogs with 23 points. Lara Creighton scored 17 and Brooke Satathite added 14 for Kenai.
Kenai Boys 70 – Nikiski 38
A talented, senior-laden Kardinal boys team overpower the Nikiski boys 70-38 in non-conference basketball action at KCHS on Thursday. Kenai lead 41-17 at the half and had the game in hand. Tristan Landry topped the scoring for Kenai with 23 points; Braden Ellis lead the Bulldogs with 17 points.
