Jackman, Wilson & Furlong Race To State Gold: Local Athletes Turn In Top Performances At State Track

The 2017 ASAA 4A State Track & Field Championships showcased the state’s top athletes and athletes from the central peninsula earned gold, silver and bronze medals including five individual gold medals.

 

The Kenai Kardinals and Soldotna Stars collected 14 top three finishes including seven gold medals, four silver medals and three bronze medals.

 

Kenai Kardinals

Josh Jackman took to the track on Saturday, winning the boys 200M Dash and finishing second in the boys 100M (missing gold by .05 of a second).  Jackman added to the gold medal performance on Friday in the boys long jump.

Jarett Wilson topped the field in the 300M Hurdles for the gold.  Wilson also finished fourth in the 110M Hurdles.

Abby Beck finished third in the girls Shot Put for the bronze medal.  Beck finished fourth in the Discus on Friday.

The Kardinal girls 4X800M Relay team finished third overall.  Team members included: Ithaca Bergholtz, Addison Gibson, Brooke Satathite and Riana Boonstra.

 

Soldotna Stars

Brenner Furlong raced to a gold medal in the boys 400M Dash.  Furlong also anchored the SoHi 4X400M Relay team to a silver medal and new SoHi school record.

Wendall Tuisaula won the Discus gold on Friday.

Abe Van Hout earned a silver medal in the 110M Hurdles and was a member of the Stars 4X400M Relay team.

Emily Pieh won silver in the girls Discus event.

Ituau Tuisaula placed third and earned bronze in the girls Shot Put.

The Soldotna boys 4X400M Relay took home the silver medal and set a new SoHi school record for the event.

Cody Hemphill and Jode Sparks combined for gold medals in both the Unified 100M and the Unified Long Jump.  SoHi’s Kyle Marcuson and Matt Martinelli combined for a fourth in the Unified Shot Put; and Malikhi Hansen and Brian Dusek joined Hemphill and Sparks for a fourth in the Unified 4X100 M Relay.

 

The 2017 ASAA 1-2-3A State Track & Field Championships featured Nikiski, Homer and Seward athletes competing in the small schools state championships.

 

The Bulldog boys racked up seven top three finishes, including two relay victories.

 

Nikiski

Isaac Averill raced to a silver medal in the boys 100M Dash.

Ian Johnson threw for a bronze medal in the boys Discus.

Jack Sullenger jumped to a bronze medal in the boys Long Jump

Aaron McCollum finished third for a bronze medal in the boys Triple Jump.

Nikiski boys 4X100M Relay earned gold with team members: Matthew Minium, Aaron McCollum, Jack Sullenger, Patrick Perry and Isaac Averill.

Nikiski boys 4X200M Relay earned gold with team members: Matthew Minium, Jack Sullenger, Patrick Perry and Isaac Averill.

Nikiski boys 4X400M Relay earned bronze with team members: Aaron McCollum, Jack Sullenger, Patrick Perry and Garrett Ellis.
