SoHi Softball Opens State Play On Thursday With Pair Of Losses

The Soldotna Stars girls softball team, #2 seed from the Northern Lights Conference, opened pool play on Thursday at the 2017 ASAA Small School State Softball Championships hosted at South Davis Park Fields in Fairbanks.

 

The three-day tournament began with pool play on Thursday.  The results of the pool play determine placement onto the tournament’s double-elimination bracket for play on Friday and Saturday, June 2nd and 3rd.

 

SoHi Girls 7 –  Thunder Mountain 18

The SoHi girls faced Thunder Mountain in the 2:30 p.m. game on Thursday at South Davis Park Fields, falling to the Falcons 18-7.  SoHi pitcher Danielle Hills pitched five innings; the Stars lead early 3-2 in the second inning.

SoHi Girls 3 – Hutchison 14

SoHi again struggled to hold down their opponents scoring, dropping a 14-3 decision to the Hutchison Hawks in the 5:00 p.m. pool play game.  SoHi held their own early with the game tied at 1-1 in the third inning.

The Soldotna girls begin double-elimination bracket play on Friday at the South Davis Park Fields in Fairbanks with a noon pairing against the Homer Mariners.  The two Northern Lights Conference teams play each other after Thursday’s pool play results.  The winner of the SoHi vs Homer game advances to a 2:30 p.m. Friday game; the loser will play at 5:00 p.m. Friday in an elimination game.
