Oilers Split Doubleheader With Pilots To Close Road Trip

The Peninsula Oilers closed-out the first road trip of the season with a split doubleheader against the Anchorage Glacier Pilots at Mulcahy Park in Anchorage on Monday in Alaska Baseball League action.  The Oilers collect a pair of road wins and stand at 3-10 in the ABL.

 

Oilers 8 – Glacier Pilots 0

The Oilers hammered-out 13 hits and collected eight runs, both season highs, in an 8-0 rout of the Glacier Pilots in game one of Monday’s doublehehader.  In the third inning, the Oilers recorded five straight hits and five runs, both season bests; including a two-run home run by Ryan Smith.  Devin Hayes notches the win allowing no runs and striking out eight batters in four and 1/3 innings.

 

Oilers 1 – Glacier Pilots 3

The Oilers and Pilots were deadlocked at 1-1 into the bottom of the sixth in game two, when the Pilots scored a pair of runs.  With the bases loaded, Oilers reliever Matt Acosta walked in a run and allowed a single for the second run.  Final score: Pilots 3, Oilers 1.

 

The Oilers are off on Tuesday and Wednesday and open a five game series with the Anchorage Glacier Pilots at Coral Seymour Memorial Park on Thursday.  Thursday’s game is a Free Admission Day and Flag Day at the Park, with a 7:00 p.m. game time.
