Oilers Keep Playoff Hopes Alive With 14-5 Victory Over Chinooks

The Peninsula Oilers dominated the Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks 14-5 in Saturday’s ABL battle at Coral Seymour Memorial Park, the final home contest for the Oilers.

 

Oilers 14 – Chinooks 5

The Peninsula Oilers closed-out their home season with a 14-run, 14-hit effort to dominate the Chinooks 14-5 in Alaska Baseball League action.

Kyle Lucke pitched five innings and allowed only one run on four hits; as the Oilers built a 5-0 lead.  In the sixth inning, the Chinooks plated four runs to tie the game at 5-5.  The Oilers answered with five runs in the bottom of the sixth and four runs in the eighth inning.  Kellen Strahm lead the Oilers batters with three hits and two RBI; Isaac Deveaux went 1 for 2 with three RBI; Paul Kunst and Mikey Hoehner each added two RBI.  Final Score: Oilers 14 – Chinooks 5

 

Oilers Final Regular Season Series & Playoff Scenario 

The Peninsula Oilers travel to Mulcahy Park in Anchorage for a final pair of road games against the Anchorage Glacier Pilots.  The Oilers face the Pilots on Sunday and Monday, both games scheduled for 7:00 p.m. start times.

The Peninsula Oilers enter the Pilots series with an 18-24 overall record; one game ahead of the 17-25 Chinooks in the hunt for a playoff spot for the Top of the World Series.

The top four teams in the ABL advance to the Top of the World Series, which begins Wednesday, August 2nd.  The top two seeds will host first-round, best 2 of 3 series.
