Oilers Fall To Miners In Playoff Opener

The Alaska Baseball League post season tournament, The Top of the World Series, opened with the Mat-Su Miners downing the Peninsula Oilers 3-1 and the Anchorage Bucs topping the Anchorage Glacier Pilots 6-4 in twelve innings.

 

The Top of the World Series, best 2 of 3 games playoff, continues at Herman Brothers Field on Thursday with a scheduled 2:00 p.m. start for the second game of the series between the Oilers and Miners.  The “if necessary” game will also be played on Thursday, following the first contest.

 

The Bucs vs Pilots series continues with a 4:00 p.m. game at Mulcahy Park in Anchorage.

 

Miners 3 – Oilers 1 

The Miners take a 1-0 advantage in the Top of the World Series pairing between the Oilers and Miners with a 3-1 victory over the Peninsula Oilers on Wednesday at Herman Brothers Field.

 

Through a scoreless, first five innings; the Oilers had their chances, leaving two on in the fourth and bases-loaded in the fifth inning.  The Miners scored the game’s first run in the bottom of the sixth, scoring with the assistance of an infield single.  The Miners added two runs in the seventh for the 3-0 lead.  Thomas Ruddy drove in the Oilers run in the top of the ninth after two outs; Isaac Deveaux was retired representing the tying run. Oilers starter Preston Plavanich gave the Oilers six solid innings allowing one run on four hits and recording five strikeouts.  The Oilers managed only four hits.
