Katelin Richards carded three rounds of solid golf for the 2017 Alaska State Amateur Championship in the Women’s Open division, defending her 2016 championship–a repeat state championship for Richards.
The 15-year-old golfer, who grew up golfing in Soldotna and now lives in Anchorage, dominated the field with rounds of 81, 80 and 82 on the Creek Course at Moose Run carding a three-round total of 243. Katelin Richards won the championship by ten strokes over second place Halcyon Swisher. Anika Richards, younger sister of Katelin, finished third overall in the Women’s Open division with a three-day total of 256.
Both Katelin and Anika are scheduled to play in the Alaska Junior Golf Association State Championships scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, August 7th & 8th at the Anchorage Golf Course and Moose Run Course.
In the men’s division, Anchorage’s Jordan Miller shot a final round 68 and a four-day, 72 hole total of 287. Miller is also a repeat state champion, adding to his 2016 state men’s championship. Miller’s 68 on Sunday was the best round recorded for the tournament.
