For the second time in less than 24 hours, a central peninsula football team suffers a loss in a game decided by a missed extra point attempt.

The Nikiski Bulldogs constructed a 95-yard touchdown drive in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s contest against the Monroe Rams to draw to within a point of the Rams at 7-6, only to fail to convert a two-point conversion.  The same fate feel on the Kardinals in Fairbanks on Friday night in an 8-6 loss to North Pole.

Monroe 7 – Nikiski 6

Following a scoreless first half, the Monroe Rams opened the scoring with a 56-yard touchdown pass early in the third quarter for a 7-0 lead over the Bulldogs.  Nikiski answered with a 95-yard drive which began on the Bulldog five yard line late in the third quarter and concluded with a 5-yard touchdown run by Ian Johnson at 8:18 of the fourth quarter.

The Bulldogs went for two; only to be turned-away.

A final drive by Nikiski began on the Bulldog 40 yard line and ended with an interception in the end zone with only seconds remaining.  Monroe took a knee and secured the victory 7-6 over the Bulldogs.
