Friday Night Football Earns Stars & Bears Conference Victories

The Soldotna Stars defense earned SoHi’s first Northern Lights Conference victory with a 28-10 win over Palmer on Friday night in Palmer.  Kodiak upsets Kenai 27-22 on ” The Rock” for the Bears first conference victory.

 

SoHi 28 – Palmer 10

The Stars improve to 5-0 on the regular season.

SoHi advances their state-best, consecutive win streak to 54 games.

The Stars defense stiffened under pressure holding Palmer on downs on three separate drives and forcing Palmer into a field goal on a fourth drive.  The Stars allow one touchdown and one field goal; as Palmer is held scoreless in the fourth quarter.

SoHi opened the scoring wth a 52-yard drive capped by a 32-yard touchdown pass from Brandon Crowder to Galen Brantley III.

Palmer answered with their only touchdown.  SoHi 7, Palmer 7

The Stars scored on a 5-yard quarterback bootleg by Crowder to finish a 94-yard drive,  SoHi 14, Palmer 7

The Stars hold Palmer on fourth down at the SoHi 14 yard line,  Halftime score: SoHi 14 – Palmer 7

In the third quarter, SoHi defense holds Palmer at the 8-yard line, forcing Palmer into an 18-yard field goal.  SoHi 14, Palmer 10

The fourth quarter features an Aaron Faletoi 1-yard touchdown run.  SoHi 21, Palmer 10

The Stars hold Palmer on downs and drive for a 10-yard touchdown run by Crowder.  SoHi 28, Palmer 10

The Stars again hold Palmer on downs and run out the game clock.

Final Score: SoHi 28 – Palmer 10

 

Kodiak 27 – Kenai 22

Kodiak lead throughout in a 27-22 NLC win over the visiting Kardinals.

 

The Kardinals, trailing 27-22, mounted a final drive moving the football to the two-yard line of the Bears.  Kodiak’s defense held on a third-down play, stopping the Kards on the one-yard line.

Kodiak opens with first quarter touchdown and a field goal.  Kodiak 10- Kenai 0

Kodiak leads 20-6 at the half; Kenai closes to 27-22 in the fourth quarter.

Zack Tuttle leads the Kardinals with nearly 200 total yards including 170 receiving yards.
