The Kenai Kardinal girls cross country running team challenged the favorite West Valley and the Kardinals earned the runner-up position at the 2017 ASAA State Cross Country Running Championships in Division I.
The Homer Mariner girls were knocked from the number one spot in Division II by Grace Christian as the Grizzlies out-pointed Homer to deny the Mariners a fourth-straight state title.

The Kenai Kardinal girls placed four runners in the top fifteen to place second in the team scoring behind West Valley.
West Valley’s Kendall Kramer raced to the individual title and lead the Wolfpack to the team title. West Valley totaled 47 points; the Kardinals, 79.
Leading the way for the Kenai girls, Jaycie Calvert finished eighth with a time of 19:23; Riana Boonstra, 11th; Addison Gibson, 13th and Brooke Satathite, 15th; all finishing in under 20 minutes on the Bartlett course.
SoHi’s Erika Arthur place 47th overall.
Division I Cross Country Running Results: Boys
Kenai Kardinal freshman Maison Dunham finished 11th overall, completing the course in 16:38.
The Soldotna boys finished seventh in the team scoring with five runners, all seniors, running in a pack finishing between 34th and 59th. Coby Vinson lead the SoHi boys in 34th with Josh Shuler in 38th.
