The 2017 ASAA 3A & 4A Volleyball State Championships crowned champions on Saturday with the Dimond Lynx recording their third-straight 4A title and the Valdez Buccaneers earning the 3A championship.
The Dimond Lynx defeat Bartlett in a five game finale’, downing the Golden Bears 15-4 in the deciding fifth game for the 4A championship.
Valdez held-off Barrow in a three game sweep of the Whalers for the 3A championship.
Friday Tournament Results: 3A and 4A
The Nikiski Bulldogs fell to Barrow in three, straight on Friday eliminating Nikiski at the ASAA 3A Volleyball State Championships at West Anchorage High School.
The Soldotna Stars were also knocked out at the 4A state volleyball tournament with a four game loss to West Valley.
Opening Day Results: Thursday
The opening rounds of the 2017 ASAA State Volleyball Championships featured an opening match defeat for the Nikiski Bulldogs in the 3A division and a split for the Soldotna Stars in the 4A division.
3A State Volleyball
The Nikiski Bulldogs opened the 3A state tournament with an opening loss to Valdez three games to one. The Bucs opened with a 25-14 win in game one; Nikiski answered 25-11 in game two. Valdez took games three and four, 25-13 and 25-12 for the victory over the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs continue play in the double-elimination format tournament with a 10 a.m. contest on Friday morning against Barrow.

4A State Volleyball
The Soldotna Stars split a pair of contests on the opening day of the double-elimination 4A volleyball state tournament, downing Juneau in the first pairing and falling to Bartlett in the winner’s bracket round.
SoHi recorded a three-game sweep over the Crimson Bears 25-12, 25-20, 25-16. The Stars advanced to an evening, winner’s bracket match against the Bartlett Golden Bears. The Golden Bears dismantled SoHi 25-17, 25-6, 25-22.
The Stars continue tournament play with a 3:15 p.m. game on Friday against the Colony-West Valley second-round loser.
