SoHi Hockey Outscores Bartlett 9-4 In Tournament Opener

Nine goals by seven different SoHi skaters powered the Soldotna Stars to a 9-4 victory over the Bartlett Golden Bears on Thursday in the opening game of the 2017 End of the Road hockey tournament in Homer.

 

SoHi opened with three, unanswered goals including back-to-back short-handed goals.  SoHi recorded four, short-handed goals of their first five goals scored.

The Stars Wyatt Medcoff opened the scoring and Ethan Yeager followed with a second, shorty for the Stars.  Lucas Kline and Alex Montague pushed SoHi to a 4-2 lead after one period.

 

The Stars added three goals in the second period with goals by Galen Brantley III, Braxton Urban and Jose’ Montague for a 7-2 SoHi advantage.

The third period included goals by Brantley and Medcoff as the Stars post a 9-4 tournament win.

 

In goal for the Stars, McKenzie Powell recorded 29 saves on 33 shots for her first victory of the season between the pipes.

 

SoHi faces Houston in the second round of the round-robin format tournament on Friday at the Kevin Bell Arena.  Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m.on ESPN 1140AM with the Sweeney’s Pregame Show beginning at 4:45 p.m.
