Benjamin Bennett, from Fairbanks and a recognizable fighter from local mixed martial arts events held in Soldotna, earned the world championship belt in the 170-pound division at the 2017 IMMAF World Championships Amateur MMA.
Bennett defeated Sola Axel in the 170 pound championship bout on Sunday in Manama, Bahrain in a split-decision, three round match. Bennett improves to 16-4 as an amateur in mixed martial arts.
