The transfer of funds from two completed City of Kenai projects to the repair of the city’s dock was approved unanimously by council members, Wednesday night.
The Animal Control kennel recoating and Public Safety Building boiler replacement projects have been completed but left $106,422 unused.
Kenai City Manager Paul Ostrander told the City Council how those leftover funds would combine with others to achieve the estimated $259,000 for the repairs to the dock.
Ostrander: “That $106,000 is portion of the project that is going to paid for by general fund monies of the city. The $153,000 that is labeled restitution, is the estimated amount that would be paid through insurance proceeds, so those two combined is the $259,000 which is the total cost of the project which includes the damage due to the earthquake and in addition to that the cathodic protection.”
The dock was damaged during the 7.1 magnitude earthquake that jolted Kenai on January 24, 2016.
