Conference pecking order in the Northern Lights Conference either got clearer or a little more murky depending on how Saturday’s results are interpreted.
Kenai vs Kodiak
The Kenai girls recorded a pair of victories at home against the Kodiak girls in NLC play at KCHS.
Friday, Kenai downed Kodiak 46-27 and the Kardinal girls followed-up with a 49-18 win on Saturday.
The Kardinal boys dropped a pair to the Bears, falling 40-34 on Friday and 64-47 on Saturday.
The Kenai girls improve to 2-4 in conference play: Kenai boys fall to 0-6.
SoHi vs Kodiak
The Soldotna Stars traveled to Palmer on Saturday to test themselves against the Moose.
The SoHi girls turned-over the lead late in the contest, as Palmer rallied for a 53-51 Northern Lights Conference victory. The Star lead by as many as eight points in the second half after building a 34-29 lead at the half.
In the final seconds, Palmer scored one of two free throws following a bench technical foul, drew a foul on the ensuing inbound and made one of two again from the line. Down two with :04 seconds remaining, the Star girls advanced the ball into the front court but failed to get off a final shot. Final Score: 53-51 Palmer.
The SoHi boys were overpowered by Palmer 60-26.
The Star girls, having dropped three-straight to NLC opponents stand at 3-3 in conference play. The Star boys drop to 2-3 in the NLC.
SoHi Girls vs ACS (non-conference)
The Soldotna girls also played on Friday against the #1 ranked 3A girls team, losing to the Anchorage Christian girls 74-37.
Nikiski vs Homer
The Nikiski girls defeated Homer 57-21 in Southcentral Conference action on Saturday, improving to 6-1 in the SCC. Bethany Carstens scored 32 points for Nikiski.
The Bulldog boys dropped a 65-61 battle to the Mariners. Nikiski stands at 4-3 in conference play. Ian Johnson and Noah Litke lead the Bulldogs with 17 and 15 points.
